Diligence

Diligence (dil-i-gence) - earnest and persistent application to an undertaking; steady effort; assiduity.

It's been a little while since we've posted.  Voyageur has been dealing with a broken car and I've been working like a dog.  And to be honest, I think we both needed a little break.  Can't really take a break from being a caregiver.  Even when ya do, ya worry.

Mom's doctor's office was supposed to have refilled her prescriptions and they didn't.  Not until Voyageur called.  Mom's long-term care insurance FINALLY got reinstated.  But not for the full amount of money that was there previously. About half the money is not in the pool of money.  Now we need to call the insurance company and find out what the F happened to the money.  And this is 5 months after we wanted to get the home health care aide in to help Mom out.

And in the meantime, Mom's symptoms continue to progress.  From what I can tell, it seems like she now thinks I'm away at school.  She asks me all the time when I'm coming home.  And then she will mention how it's not cheap to fly and if I need any help with money to ask her.  My heart hurts every time she says that.  Her finances are no longer under her control, and Voyageur and I are doing everything in our power to ensure her money lasts her lifetime and will allow her a good quality of life.

I'm going home for a visit in a little over a week.  It's been 5 months since the last time I was home and I have no idea what to expect.  Each time I go back, the disease has progressed.  I need to make sure I build in time to visit my friends and practice yoga while I'm back home.  Over time I've come to realize I need to be just as diligent in taking care of me as I am about taking care of her - and there is an ebb and flow, a rhythm.

The small simple things make her happy.  Today she called to tell me about this great new discovery - instead of putting yogurt in the fridge, to put it in the freezer for a few hours - very yummy :)
