"Double Dawg Pinky Swear I'll Tell You The Truth"

We knew things were only going to get more difficult after mom's diagnosis.  And we knew we were going to have to work closely together for anything to work.

So we made a pact my sister and I.  We double dawg pinky swore to tell each other the truth, no matter how difficult or painful.

What I didn't realize at the time was how truly difficult it would be to keep my promise when she was so far away from home.

My sister is the long distance caregiver and I began to realize how worried and helpless she could feel when I had to tell her about a new development or problem.  I'd rather withhold the information than cause her worry or pain.  But we pinky swore to tell the truth, knowing that we'd get through whatever it was together.  So...I told her. I continue to tell her the truth about mom and her dementia. We talk it out, cry together if we need to - it will be alright.

We know the only way out is through, holding onto each other and the truth. It's the way we give our mother our best and all our love.
